LISTEN

The sound source of Murmurs is the song of a starling. The title refers to the sonic suggestions of a murmuration of starlings, soft murmurings of a crowd of people, and heart murmurs.

There are three iterations of this piece. 1. To accompany a photography exhibit featuring flocks of starlings by Richard Barnes. 2. To accompany the video of flock formations by Alex Schrader, and 3. A stand-alone version. This is the stand-alone version. The premiere took place in the cortile of the American Academy in Rome during which live starlings interacted sonically with the fixed media. Since the premiere, the work has appeared at Yerba Buena in San Francisco (in the courtyard) and many other venues both outdoors and indoors.
